According to the dictionary, fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat: Although it is defined as an emotion, that is not completely true as it is usually triggered by thoughts. When we have thoughts on a regular basis about certain circumstances then our response becomes involuntary.
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 23 v 7
Fear cause Breathing rate increases, heart rate follows suit, peripheral blood vessels — in the skin, for instance — constrict, central blood vessels around vital organs dilate to flood them with oxygen and nutrients, and muscles are pumped with blood, ready to react.
Muscles — including those at the base of each hair — also become tighter, causing piloerection, which is colloquially called goosebumps. When a human’s hair stands on end, it makes little difference to their appearance, but for more hirsute animals, it makes them seem larger and more formidable.
Metabolically, levels of glucose in the blood spike, providing a ready store of energy if the need for action arises. Similarly, levels of calcium and white blood cells in the bloodstream see an increase. Fear: What happens in the brain and body? (medicalnewstoday.com)
For Yah/God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 timothy 1 v 7
The bible describes fear as a spirit. How so? What is a spirit? The dictionary says : the nonphysical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character; the soul:
For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of Yah/God except the Spirit of Yah/God.
1 corinthians 2 v 11
What/Who is a spirit being
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. John 6 v 63
So if words are a spirit then, spirits cannot be seen with the natural eye but they can be heard.
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
James 2 v 26
Although the spirit cannot be seen it actually is alive and gives life to our bodies. So, in essence we are spirit beings.
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8 v 15
Yah/God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4 v 24
The spirit of a person is where thoughts dwell because it is the control center that determines and makes decisions about a person’s life. It is like a computer processor. Without a processor the computer cannot function. It is therefore the most vital part of us.
So, The Almighty is a spirit and so are we. There are also other spirit beings such as angels and demons.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
ephesians 6 v 12
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
hebrews 1 v 14
The spirits we entertain and listen to matter
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
romans 8 v 6
So it important to discern which spirit is speaking to and through us, either through others or in our own minds.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from Yah/God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 john 4
Words and thoughts that produce fear are from the kingdom of darkness. Words and thoughts that produce love are from the kingdom of light.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
1 john 4 v 18
But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him. 1 John 2 v 27
For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Mathew 10 v 20
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savors not the things that be of Yah/God, but those that be of men.”
mathew 16 v 23
The spirit we listen to will determine our destiny.
For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14For all who are led by the Spirit of Yah/God are sons of Yah/God.
romans 8 v 14
Fear is produced when we believe the lies of the enemy
Although we are spirit beings we are limited as to what we know as we are in a physical body. When we have dreams and visions our spirits are taken to different places and shown different things. Also when spirits send us thoughts we get information that way as well. The spirit world is not bound by time. So in the spirit realm we can see what is planned for the future.
When The Almighty tells us His plans for the future it produces faith/ love and when the devil tells us His plans it produces fear/hate.
But Yah/God came to Abimelech in a dream during the night and spoke to him, “Pay attention! You’re about to die, because the woman you have taken is a man’s wife!” genesis 20 v 4
The word of The Almighty can produce fear as well but it is for useful purpose to help us to change bad behavior to good. Fear can be used for good by The Almighty but when used by Satan it is always for evil.
When we respond to fear we must be mindful of the source.
Abraham was afraid that the people of the land would kill him, so he asked his wife to say she was his sister. This is a good example of how we typically respond to fear. We act upon it and try to stop what we fear from happening.
Our actions give consent
The spirit realm needs us to approve of their plans in order for them to execute it. So both the kingdoms of light and darkness needs our agreement. They use thoughts, dreams , visions , people and whatever means they can to tell us their plans. Our action is often used to show our agreement. When Abraham told Sarah to say she was his sister , his action proved that he believed what the enemy had proposed to him. Yet he had struggled to believe that he could have a son by Sarah his wife because of her age.
How to destroy evil thoughts
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God/Yah, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ/Mashiak;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
We must actively examine our thoughts to see how to treat them. When they come from the enemy, we must cast them down and not do anything to show that we agree with them. It is also helpful to respond with the written word like Mashiak did.
The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God/Yah, tell these stones to become bread.”But Yashya/Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God/Yah.’”
mathew 4v4
The word of The Almighty produces faith so when we use it like a sword to destroy the enemies lies, we overcome and have the victory.
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 corithians 5 v 7
To overcome fear we must conquer it by faith
Fear seeks to get us in agreement to evil that is planned for the future by the enemy. While faith seeks to help us to agree with what The Almighty has planned for the future.
Moment by moment, day by day we must rise to the challenge of doing battle in our minds to demolish fear. Often it has established strongholds in our minds which are patterns of thinking, which will need to be torn down.
Fear causes hate it, because it puts self first and results in us not loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. We often end up choosing ourselves over others and not loving as The Father loves.
The word of Yah gives us the power to love. It gives us the Most high’s perspective and it forces us to be more fair in our judgement. Instead of self being first He comes first and this puts fear out of business.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers. 2But his delight is in the Law of the Almighty and on His law he meditates day and night. psalm 1 v 2
So here David offers a solution to living our best lives. Instead of meditating on fear, we should meditate on the word of Yah.
