Here is another word that has been mutilated and transformed from the old to the new covenant. In hebrew the word is Besorah and it means good news or tidings. The announcement of news either verbally or in written form was usually about a positive event of public importance. Things that would qualify would victory in battle over an enemy.
The words was also used by people to tell of their good news, when The Almighty delivered them from personal distress. In this context it was about announcing what The Almighty had done. The word is from the root word basar which means flesh. It was first used in Genesis 2 v 23-24 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
The woman was good news to the man. The Most High’s help to us will always be good news.
They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people.
1 Chronicles 10v9
The Almighty also had good news
The verse in chronicles is a classic case of good news being of a military nature. However as the old covenant progressed the good news was also sent out by The Almighty.
The Almighty gives the word, and a great army brings the good news. Psalm 68 v 11
How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news.
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion,
“Your Almighty reigns!”
Isaiah 52v7
Here we get a glimpse of what the message was about. It told the people that they were going to be delivered and their Almighty was reigning as King. So here we still have a sense of a military message along with one of encouragement for the people.
More good news
The Spirit of the Sovereign Ahayah is on me,
because the Almighty has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the Almighty’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our Almighty,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
Here is a message of deliverance and hope to the poor and those that mourn. It also speaks of vengeance which which is promised here. So the message again follows the pattern of addressing victory over enemies and deliverance and comfort to those who need it.
What happened in the new covenant to the same word
The word was translated into Greek as Euangelion which means good message. The eu refers to something good and angelos or angelion is the word for message. (What does the word gospel mean……R.C. Sproul)
The Greek was then translated into English as “gospel” which is old English. It’s really 2 words crammed together God and Spel. The word God came from the Teutonic Celts who worshipped the sun with the word God and it was used because it was already familiar to them. It also was used to refer to super human beings of heathen myth. Just like how the Greeks used Theos instead of Alahim/Elohim because they were already familiar with it.
The second part of the word Spel is also of celtic origin. It means incantation, speech, news, message. It is the spell spoken to others. The word gospel is one of many words we have inherited from dead translators. Scholars agree that how the term came into use is not clearly understood. It is an example of how words have been adopted by the English language from other languages based on the culture of the people around at the time.
These words often have pagan connotations for obvious reasons.
What did The Mashyach preach
So the first four books of the new testament were called the Gospels, because they embodied the life teachings and death of the Mashyach and based on the doctrine of Christianity He was now the good news. While this is in part correct, it is an over simplification of the truth.
We must remember that before His death burial and resurrection Yashyah/Jesus preached good news. Yashyah/Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. He also Cast out demons.
And this good news/gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Mathew24v14
The good news here is clearly about the reign of The Almighty and the coming of His kingdom. A similar message to the one in the old testament. A message that announces the rulership of The Almighty in the Earth, bringing righteousness peace and joy. In this case The Mashyach was the messenger and proved his authenticity with signs and wonders. Leaving us to do the same.
However somehow the message that is now being preached is about heaven and hell and how people can go to heaven and not hell. This was not what was preached by The Mashyach nor His Apostles. This is really a fear based message designed to manipulate people into attending church. Anything that is fear based is designed to intimidate.
For The Almighty has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Others also carried the good news
Paul also was called to preach the good news.
Paul, a servant of Yashyah Hamashiach, called to be an apostle and set apart for the good news/gospel of The Almighty— 2 the good news/gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
Romans 1 v1
He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of The Almighty, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to The Almighty/God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit….I will not venture to speak of anything except what Mashyach has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey The Almighty by what I have said and done— 19 by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of The Almighty. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the good news/gospel of Mashyach. .
Romans 1 v 15
Here we see that it is the good news of The Most High and Paul is a messenger who has been empowered by the Mashyach. He spoke of the good news leading the gentiles to obey the Almighty which alludes to the reign of The Almighty being observed in their lives. It is our submission and obedience to The Almighty that brings shalom and deliverance.
Results of being inThe Kingdom are also called good news
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the good news/gospel of your salvation/deliverance: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 1 v 12-13
So here we see that the deliverance that was made possible through Mashyach was also called good news. However it is our submission to The Mashyach as unto The Almighty that brings about our deliverance. Every Kingdom has a King and everyone else in the kingdom is of lesser rank. When we acknowledge The King we accept His reign over our lives. When we do this His favor and blessing comes upon us. This is what Yashyah came to establish and announce.
Now after that John was put in prison, Yashyah/Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news/gospel of the kingdom of The Almighty/God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of The Almighty/God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the good news/gospel. Mark 1 v 14-15
On the whole the good news brings joy and speaks of victory peace and deliverance. It is not a message of doom that is designed to scare people into obedience. It is always mankind that tries to manipulate their fellowman for their own gain.
