“We must remember that there were no New Testament writings during Yeshua’s day only The Tanakh. There were no churches in Yeshua’s day. People went to synagogues and there were house ministries. Teachers also had disciples. Paul taught scripture but he wrote letters addressing the needs and issues in different congregations. He did not consider his letters to be scripture. But rather letters instructing new believers how to conduct themselves according to scripture.
The biblical revival in the book of acts took place when there was no Mathew, Mark, Luke or John or Paul’s writings. The Bible was written in a Middle Eastern cultural context by predominantly Hebrew people as The Holy/Set Apart Spirit inspired them. We therefore will fall into a spirit of error when we interpret the scriptures from a western or modern mindset, culture and customs as these were different when the bible was written”. ( Discipleship training program by Arthur Bailey)
Peter had warned of twisting Paul’s writings and disregard for the Tanakh which is the law and the prophets. The spirit of error is behind this to justify lawlessness.
Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2 I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Master and Savior through your apostles.
2 peter 3 v 1-2
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Almighty’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God/Yah gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
2 PETER 3 V 14 – 16
It is safe to say that if what is being taught is only taken from Paul’s letters without support from the Tanakh there is error in interpretation.
17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 2 PETER 3 v19
Here we will see that the Tanakh was meant to lead us to repentance. This is what would have been taught in the Messiah’s Day. Messiah himself preached repentance, which means to turn from lawlessness back to the law and the prophets.
“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”…Luke 16 v 27-31
Messiah himself said :
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Mathew 5 v 17
It was used to teach:
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Mathew 7 v 12
It is so important to test things against the word.
Timothy was referring to the Tanakh:
All Scripture is breathed out by God/Yah and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2 Timothy 3 v 16
We are warned not to substitute traditions for the word.
And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God/Elohim in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God/Elohim)— then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother. Thus, making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
Mark 7 v 9 -13
If they were using the Tanakh to teach, then whatever was not in it or agree with it, would be from the spirit of error.
The Anti Messiah has an agenda
And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4You are of God/Yah, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world. Therefore, they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of God/Yah. He who knows God/Yah hears us; he who is not of God/Yah does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.1 John 4 v 1-6
We cannot just believe everything we hear.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
“We cannot just accept anyone who claims they have the Spirit; we cannot just let our minds fall under the influence of any spirit. It may be the spirit of error. The only way to know is to read the Word of God/Elohim. You cannot believe everything you hear! Let me just name several fields of human activity:”
“What about religion? Can you believe everything you hear? If you listen to the various religious messages about in the world today, you soon discover messages in conflict. All you hear cannot be the truth. All you hear cannot be taught in the Scriptures by God/Elohim.”
Study to show yourself approved
In the time of Messiah teachers could be questioned. That is why the pharisees asked so many questions of Yashya/Jesus which became a part of the New Testament writings.
The way most church services are designed does not make room for questions about doctrine.
“Which religious teachers today, should we apply this test to?? Every single one of them! Billy Graham, Benny Hinn, Jerry Falwell, Max Lucado, Charles Swindoll, Warren Berkley. And every other preacher or teacher you might listen to, and every uninspired author you read. Every single religious teacher should be tested in the same way, by simply seeing if what he says is in the Scriptures!”
“Never think that if a man is popular and brings in huge crowds, that means he must be teaching the truth!
Please never think that if a man is a good public speaker and can hold the attention of an audience, that means he must be teaching the truth.”
Never think that if you like the person, he must be teaching the truth.
Or think that if a man has been baptized and is a member of a local church of Christ, he has to be a perfect teacher of truth.
Never think that if a man quotes a lot of Scripture, he must be teaching the truth.
Also never think that if a man has academic, educational credentials, he must be teaching the truth!!
There is only one way to determine if a man is teaching the truth – – see if what he says is in the Bible!! In order for you to make that determination you know what you’ll have to do? Read and study your Bible!
Paul’s writings have been misunderstood
Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures /Tanakh daily to find out whether these things were so.
Acts 17 v 10-11
They are of the world. Therefore, they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God/Elohim. He who knows God/Elohim hears us; he who is not of God/Elohim does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (The Spirit of Truth And The Spirit of Error” by Warren Berkley)
1 John 4:1-6 – “The Spirit of Truth And The Spirit of Error” -authority (bible.ca): Why the Tanakh is still important and how Paul’s letters have been used to create false doctrinePaul never intended his writings to be used independently of The Tanakh, since that is all, he knew about at that time. His letters must therefore be read in that context.
When he says :
So ,we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Messiah, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
2 corithians 5 v 9
This is alluding to the fact that the wage of sin is death, and we will be judged for our deeds. The gift of Messiah is eternal life, if we allow Him to deliver us from our sins. The justice of The Almighty will use Messiah’s blood to forgive our sins if we confess them. The scripture does not teach that we are saved without getting rid of sin. Which is what it means to repent.
Seeing the end from the beginning
Therefore, if anyone is in Messiah, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God/Elohim, who reconciled us to himself through Messiah and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God/Elohim was reconciling the world to himself in Messiah, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Messiah’s ambassadors, as though God/Elohim were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Messiah’s behalf: Be reconciled to God/Elohim. 21 God/Elohim made him who had no sin to be sin[b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God/Elohim. 2 Corinthians 5 v 17-20
This scripture has been used to build a whole doctrine, which states that our human spirit has been born again after we come into covenant relationship with Messiah through baptism. And as long as we believe this, we can align our souls with it in order to walk in obedience. The problem with this is that the new birth is described in the scripture as regeneration. This is a process just like natural birth. Conception is the beginning of a process of growth. Regeneration is a process of sanctification.
The end is new birth but not the beginning. This teaching ignores the need for us to be changed by crucifying the old man as a part of being born again. A new creature is different from the old.
Because of this doctrine most of us have no desire to repent and turn from our wicked ways because we think we already are new creatures.
Faith takes the word and acts on it so that the end is achieved.
Yes , we were reconciled in Messiah just like how Israel was delivered from Egypt and given the promised land. However, did they actually possess this land, or did they perish in the wilderness? The Most high always sees the end from the beginning. He speaks things that are not as if they are.
As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.”[a] He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
So when Abraham was childless he was still called the father of many nations.
Since that time, He waits for His enemies to be made a footstool for His feet, 14because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified.
hebrews 10 v 14
Goals help to inspire us and hope motivates us. Faith is actually hearing and doing. So by faith we attain the promises.
So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of The Most high.
romans 10 v 17
Promises are always referencing a future state. When it is conditional then the prerequisites have to be met in order to receive it. We have been given, the word, the blood and The Set Apart Spirit to help us work out our salvation.
The intent of misinformation is always deception
What false teaching does is to assure people of things that are promised conditionally, without including the condition. This gets us to let our guard down and not do the work that is necesary for us to receive the promise.
For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about[b] long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God/Yah into a license for immorality and deny Yahsya Hamashiach our only Sovereign and Master.
5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Almighty[c] at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.
But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

We actually need to learn obedience like Messiah did in the wilderness: It is required.
Son though he was, [Jesus] learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5 v 8-10.
“Today, if you hear His voice, 8do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, 9where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works
So The Almighty can be understood through patterns that he establishes. Here he delivered Isreal out of Egypt by way of the Sea of Reeds which is a symbol of baptism . Then he took them into the wilderness to be tried, in order to get their hearts renewed. This stage of the journey is actually required before they could enter the promised land and so is our spiritual deliverance.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
2 peter 1 v 4
Scripture does not contradict itself
Paul is not bipolar, he could not be promising that we are a new creation in the same chapter that he is telling us that we will be judged for our deeds, unless we have misunderstood his letter. It says if, meaning there is a condition, which has to be met.
The flesh is always looking for an easy way out. It is rebellious and worldly. It wants to have blessings without choosing to obey. It wants a paycheck without doing the job. That is our evil inclination. The enemy knows this and actually presents false teachings to take us with him to where he is going.
If we get a job and we are promised a salary, we will never expect to be paid without showing up for work. We cannot be rewarded or punished on the day of judgement if we were not required to do anything.
